The Circle of Wisdom
High above the Emerald River, shrouded in mist, is the Circle of Wisdom. You will often find Gaul the Wizard and many ethereal creatures holding council here. Anabell and Taragon will visit the Circle of Wisdom for help to complete Tarragon’s quest.
The Circle of Wisdom draws inspiration from a real-life megalithic circle above the village of Volče in western Slovenia. This circle is known as Belin’s Throne (Belinov Tron) because of its association with an old deity, Belin, the God of healing, sun and light, and his throne - a megalith in the circle that looks like a throne and is said to be very powerful.¹ Oral tradition holds that people walked to Belin's Throne from all around.²
I have visited this site many times. The most memorable of these occasions was watching the sun rise over the snow-capped Julian Alps on the Equinox (first photo). It was truly a powerful experience. Perhaps it was just the warmth of the new spring sun’s rays on my face. Possibly it was the serenity stemming from dead silence interspersed with birdsong. Just maybe however, the folk tales are true.
